Coffee or a Bar?

You must have heard that drinking a cup of coffee a day is good for your health.  No?  Then you better start reading more >D

Testimony of Amanda Chan on how she views coffee"

"Oh, coffee. The a.m. savior, dispenser of energy and the reason why many of us are able to get through the first parts of our days without looking like zombies."

Contrary to popular beliefs, coffee not only works as a fluid alarm clock to keep you awake but it actually gives you health benefits as well!

Just one quick fact, for those of you who are in the journalism line or legal line, drink coffee to improve your proof reading power because according to a recent research in Journal of Experimental Psychology, the caffeine in coffee actually helps you spot grammar mistakes!  Bet you would never thought caffeine could do this!

Quick question!  Are you one of those people who are simply addicted to coffee and not just any coffee but really high quality coffee and is brewed directly in front of you without a fancy name or fancy topping but plain, good'old coffee?

If you are, then stop searching because such a place exist and I am telling you exactly where it is!

They are not only popular with the locals here but even with tourists for serving really high quality coffee for a reasonable price and it's run only by 2 people!  The Double C's: Chew and Chloe :D  They are really nice and they very willingly take time to explain about the properties and taste of each coffee beans that they sell as long as you are willing to learn!!

#5  Steps!

First, you open the sealed package!

Second, hooked it to your cup!

A Day with the Mentally Disabled

I can't think of a better eye-catching title because I really need you to read this so I just simply spell out the hard, cold truth directly.

Last Sunday was special.  Instead  of spending my entire Sunday lazying around my bed or strolling around mall, I decided to do something better even if it's just ONE Sunday.  More like my friend, Aryanna initiated it, which I am thankful for.

I've always wanted to go and do/experience charity.  Just go to see and understand how are the people living like.  How's their condition?  Are they secretly being abused by the people taking care of them?

And also, I refuse to donate to those who comes to ask for money at the eating table or those that I see in malls because I never knew if they are really from such institution or they are just plain scammers so I've always told myself to pick my lazy ass up to visit at least one charity house in the near future.

We visited the Happiness Centre for the Mentally Disabled Children (website found here).  Brought clothes and can food for them and no, they were not neglected nor ill treated in any way.  All the children are very properly dressed and we even saw how they bathe them and help them brush their teeth.  It amazed me that there are really still people like this on Earth who really cares about the rest of them who are less fortunate.

#1  Food and clothes

There are currently 32 children aged between 6 months to 34 years old staying here and they are managed by only a few staff.  It's a sad news that they can't accept more than 34 children at one time due to two reasons:

i.  Financial reason;
ii. Government limitation.

The License that was given to them to run this Centre limits the number of children to a maximum of 34 children at a time.  So we naturally asked the next question:  Since the Gov is setting such limitation, are they funding you?  We got a straight and honest answer:  No.

If you are around Melaka, do pay them a visit and give them a helping hand.  Below are the things they urgently need for the time being.  If you have such items and its no longer of any use to you, please bring it to the Centre for people who really need it.

Even if you are not from Melaka, there are still ways for you to help!  Via monetary sense, which you can make a donation to the Centre via Public Bank Account No.: 3108010508.

#2  Urgently Needed Items

#3  Their plea for help

Well, below will be pictures of some of the children that I've taken from the Centre.  I have to be honest with you, it is not a nice sight AND, it is actually very depressing looking at them and knowing their background.

This kids are all abandoned by their parents due to their physical attribution and the reason why they are physically challenged is because their 'mothers' gave birth to them at the age of 13 or 14 where they themselves are not physically prepared for bearing a baby.

I've said it many times and I will say it again.  Do practice safe sex.  It's very painful for everyone else to see the mess that you've made out of your life:  Abandoning your child, abortion or even murdering them.

So if you do have the time, please visit this children and contribute a bit to the Centre.  Divided we are weak, Together, we are strong.  All your little contribution WILL help this kids and also the people running this Centre.

#4  6 Months old baby having hemorrhage.  If you see closer, you will notice she has a huge scar on her head because they have to remove the blood clot from her head

#5  This kid is prone to hitting whoever is near her.  Some of them could still stand or walk about but the rest of them are not fortunate.

#6  Child with deformed limbs

#7  Child who are born without feet and fingers.  Unable to move at all.

Please, please, PLEASE, do go and help them in any way possible.  Don't just care about our own lives and start caring about other people as well.  Be grateful that we are born normal.  Stop saying that you are financially challenged, fat, ugly or that you are not that smart because compared to them, we have it much much easier.

Out of 32 kids in the Centre, only ONE can talk, and her name is Emma.  Emma is 24 this year and although she speaks a bit slower, she could recognize people and converse with them in Malay.

Do our best to help them.  Remember that there are always people like them out there. Light up some colours in their life.  Visit them, contribute to them in any way you can.  Every single bit of your contribution do make a difference.

 #8  Emma.

Colour their world, not just yours.

Graduation Marks the Next Stage of Your Life

What do Asian parents aim for?  In my opinion it is the  '4- Angled Cap' which was translated literally from Hokkien (Chinese Dialect).  In simply mean "Graduation Hat".

I believe it is every Asian parents' dream to see their child wearing the graduation robe and the hat on their graduation day and they can finally live their life in peace (which means retirement).

Asian parents are very extreme.  They either boast about their child's achievement like how Chinese New Year drumroll or firecrackers sounds like or they are quiet about it.  Not a single word to be heard from the parents mouth.  It's like the dead calm sea in Bermuda Triangle.   Whichever category they are from, it doesn't matter because on this day, all Asian parents just seem to unite and has this super glowing face.

Have you attended a Convocation before?  If you have, you must have seen how their face shine on that day.  At times I think the parents might just outshine their kids as their face just glow with this pride that you so seldom see in an Asian parent.

Primary school life as I remember it, years seems to come by so slowly.  There must either be something wrong with the calendars or the clock because time ticks just so. slowly.

Then comes Secondary school life.  Chinese New Year seems to come faster now than when I was in primary school and I was taking part in more school activities than ever.

Before I know it,  I am packed and on my way to another State to pursue my Degree.  Some of you even left the country in pursuit of your Degrees and what the heck, I just finished the 1st year of my job now.

It is not a joke when they say time passes in a blink of an eye.  What happened to all the yester-years?  What happened to the time when we played by the roadside or catch tadpole by the drain?

What happened to that time when we have to return home before curfew?  Or simply, what happened to all that time when you hang out with your buddies till the next morning at a mamak stall watching football or tennis simply on a whim?  Seriously, what happened to all those?

My memory provides me with a blurry picture when I try to recall all the things that happened yester-years.  All I can remember is what's happening around in the office and things that I am planning for the future.

6th, 7th, 8th and 9th October 2012 are the graduation dates for Multimedia University (MMU) students and all day long today, I've seen so many graduation photos of my friends and even my own cousin where they received all the heartiest congratulations that were posted to their Facebook walls.

I too, congratulate each and every one of you for this happy, happy celebration.

Wearing that robe around you does make you shelter a few extra pound of burden because from this point on, you are no longer that little bird being caged and fed.  Now, it is time you fly out from your comfort zone and start facing this world from a different perspective:  as a working person.  Now you have to learn how is it to be subjected to seniors.  How is it to get to a higher position.  How to respect others and also ultimately, how to earn respect from others.

This is one of those life changing moments because you feel that you have to take everything seriously from this moment on.  Long gone are the days where you can act recklessly and come the days where you are officially an adult.

You can no longer be that brat who jokes 24/7 because all our life up till this point, our parents has been trying their utmost best to guide us till this point.  We have journeyed on a one way street together with our parents from birth until now and this time, we have reach a T-junction.  We go our separate ways because they can no longer control your journey.  It's time you decide your own path and journey through the ups and downs on your own.  The two paths would occasionally meet but you will notice eventually notice that your journeys don't interweave as often as time pass because you have become more (financially) independent.

Again, heartiest congratulations to all of you who has graduated.  May our path inter-cross each other one day in the future and lets help each other out when the time comes.

Yay! <3

Wedding Guests

I wonder how many of you are attracted by this word right now.

All over my Facebook, I see people getting engaged or getting married.  Some already have kid(s) and I am still in awe.  I keep forgetting that I am no longer 16 or 18 where marriage is still so far ahead.  It came as a shocking realization that I am actually already at the age where one could/should probably be/get married and maybe have kid(s).

How about you?  Are you at the age where you should be married or you should be getting married?  Say age 24 to 28?  Or are you already past that age?  If you are, then are you married or are you still single or with a partner but not married?

If you are not married, why?

I went to attend my colleague's wedding some days back and it was a very simple wedding ceremony where she invited only families and colleagues.  She didn't invite any friends and that apparently sparked some discomfort among her friends.

My question today is:  Who are you to invite IF you are getting married?  Family members?  Friends?  Colleagues?  Some society members?

Must you invite everyone because if you don't, then you might offend a certain group or is the power ultimately up to you?  Are you able to just adamantly select just a certain group of people to attend your wedding?

For me, I believe the power lies with me but that's from my personal point of view.  Society's view might (obviously) differ, if not, the caterers, hotels and restaurants will be packing up their business by now.  So is it really a culture thing or is it a populated by businessman thing to invite as many people as possible to your wedding.

Whatever happened to a small and quiet wedding of YOUR choice or are you forced to invite almost everyone you know?  If you don't invite a certain group of people, will they be offended and most certainly talk bad behind your back?

Do you no longer have that choice?

It's your wedding day.  Aren't you suppose to be the one who makes the call and be the happiest person on that day without taking into account what others feel?  Or should you take into account all their feelings as well?

What do YOU think?

Habit

5 years back, I remember giving a small talk in front of my classmates during one of our English class.  No one probably remembers it by now but looking at how things are going for this past few years, I realized what I’ve said has never expired.  In fact, I think it never will.
The title of my talk was “Habit“.  Habit is unchangeable.  Habit is uncontrollable.  The question is “why”?  Why do you keep chewing and peeling your nails whenever you watch some thriller movies?  Why do you always tend to feel sleepy or you just have every other thing to do but sitting down still on your study table and study when exam time is nearing?  Why? Why? WHY?

The answer is so simple.  It answer has always been right in front of us , just that no one ever realizes it.  Let’s study and break down the word :

H.A.B.I.T

See anything?  No?
How about…
You throw away the “H”.  What do you see?
“A.B.I.T”  Ring a bell? No? How about ” a bit
What happens when you throw away the “A” this time?
You see “B.I.T” a “bit
So, what happens when you throw away the “B” ?
Yes, the answer is simple, you still have “it“.
Do you see it now?  It doesn’t matter how hard you try changing your old habits because it will never go away.  You try the first step, you will still have “a bit” of it in you.  You try to change a little bit more, you still have “bits” of it in you.  You put in even more effort to get rid of that bad habit of yours, you will always still have “IT”.
Habit- something that’s carved into you so deeply that it’s mark can never be remove.

P/s:  The day you manage to shed the "I" away, you would have then successfully overcome this habit of yours.  Has any of you manage to ever kill off some of your old habits?  Share it with me in the comment section below!

iMac and iPhone pranks

Guest Post by Hikkikomori

After reading an anonymous comment saying Apple products should burn, I felt the need to post the following two prank videos. Now, I know those were not real Apple products inside, but I'm sure all the haters are just picturing it.

Have fun watching them and feel free to post your comments in this article :D

# Video 1

# Video 2

They are both by AwesomnessTV

Haters will always hate.  No matter what you say, iPhone is far more superior than any other phone.  Yes, its faster than you Samsung Galaxy S3.  Just go watch any speed test videos on Youtube and you will know.

All those scratch hoo hah going on, it's like one icky miny small scratch and you guys act like its the end of the world.  You guys are just hyping up one such minor detail.  You are basically trying to ignore 99% of the other factors of the phone which makes it the phone of the year.

Let me quote a comment from a reader on a previous post:

Of course it sucks. We should all get a Samsung Galaxy S III, or any other phones other than an iPhone. Because we love how our phones hang when trying to pick up a call, or crash midway through an application. You know, just so we can spend more quality time with our phones. An iPhone responds too fast and never hangs. You gotta gotta clog it up with over 80 apps open at the same time before it will show any signs of lagging; unlike the rest, which hangs about 3 times a day without us doing much at all. A needy and temperamental phone is what we want really, coz it's got more attitude, unlike an iPhone which gets everything done almost immediately. We end up finishing our tasks too soon, and putting the iPhone away until we need it again. It's like picking a girlfriend. Who wants a hot sexy girl whom you can get along with, who's helpful, quick, smart, and cooperative, when you can have a bitch that embarrasses you in front of your friends, never there when you need her, and throws bitchfits at you over the littlest issue?

Go Terry!

Asian Slang and Pranks

Darn it, if I ever get someone like this on the phone, I am going to kill that person >D

#1  Video by Ownage Pranks

Old Uncle is authentic Asian Dude and the guy making the prank call is an American.

Just so you know, the last phrase that the old uncle uttered was 'Diu Nei Lou Mou' which means fark your old mother in Cantonese.

All this while, I've always thought to myself:  Why does Americans or American Born Chinese (ABC) tends to speak in this 'English - Chinese Slang' and it is only after this video that I realized:  Does older generation Chinese who lives in American SOUNDS like THAT?

It's always the same tone all over again but WE, or at least I, I don't think I sound like that Asian dude from the video!

We Malaysians have our special English Slang that is unlike others.  To fit in our society, just add on '-la', '-lo', '-liao' or even '-ma' at the end of every English sentences and you will fit in perfectly.  All those la lo ma does not mean anything at all, it's merely a slang like how some people think adding the word '-ne' to the end of every Japanese sentences they say makes them Japanese.  We do not have that weird tone like the guy from the video.  We have weirder intonations >D

101 Guide to speaking English in Malaysia:

1.  Q:   Eat breakfast liao ma?
    A:    Ate liao.

2.  Q:   Want to have lunch ma?
    A;    Busy la.

3.  Q:   You reach McDonalds at 6 p.m. la!
    A:    No problem la.

4.  Q:    I have to go toilet la!
A:    Go la, no one stopping you.

5.  Q:    How's your day la?
    A:     Like that lo.

Enjoy your stay in Malaysia with mishberries's 101 Guide to Communicate Fluently in Malaysia! <3

Well before you go, you could check this out!  Darn funny!  Racist Starbucks Prank >D
